The Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has exposed us to a series of extraordinary circumstances that we have never experienced before.
In this unusual context, it is natural for us to react with stress, anxiety and depression.
Stress is a normal physiological response to abnormal situations. It allows the organism to adapt to circumstances that we face; either positive or negative.
Anxiety is a reaction to a threat that we still do not know, something dangerous or harmful that we imagine could happen.
Depression is a temporary state of sadness, melancholy, a feeling of emptiness, and lack of interest, among other things.
Most people have adaptive skills and resources to cope with the stress, anxiety and depression caused by the pandemic.
How can we strengthen these powers of adaptation? Here are some suggestions:
A.- Stay well informed, from reliable sources and ignore the tabloid news.
B.- Start a physical activity of your choice that allows you to relieve your tension.
C.- Eat nutritious food and try to sleep 7 – 8 hours a day.
D.- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
E.- Do not be sad and accept the help you need.
F.- Accept your personal limits and learn to delegate some responsibilities.
G.- Allow yourself some small pleasures.
It is possible that despite the recommended measures, problems related to stress, anxiety and depression are exacerbated, so this would be a good time to consider professional help.
